The Houston Airport System (HAS) handled a record-high 63.1 million passengers in the 12 months ending January ’24. That represents a 4.8 percent increase over the 60.2 million handled over the same period last year and a continued improvement over pre-pandemic levels of travel. Domestic and international travel accounted for 50.0 million and 13.1 million passengers, respectively.
Travel in the month of January remained relatively constant when compared to January of ’24, rising 0.4 percent. Domestic travel fell 0.2 percent to 3.6 million, and international travel rose 2.4 percent to 1.1 million.
Volaris announced two new routes to Morelia and San Luis Potosi, Mexico from George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) beginning in July ’25. This announcement comes alongside Volaris’ existing service to Mexico City, Guadalajara, and San Salvador, El Salvador, as well as a new route to Monterrey beginning in March ’25. In domestic news, Avelo Airlines announced a new route to Wilmington, North Carolina from William P. Hobby Airport (HOU), representing the only nonstop flight from Houston to Wilmington.
